Layer lighting room by room
Combine ceiling, task, and accent lighting so each room works throughout the day.
Good lighting usually comes from layers. Ceiling lights give the room a base level, task lights help with specific work, and accent lights create focus or atmosphere.
In living rooms, use soft general lighting and add lamps or wall lights where people read or gather. In kitchens, make sure counters receive direct light instead of relying only on ceiling fixtures behind you.
Layering also makes maintenance easier. If one light is too bright for every situation, the room becomes less flexible.
